more likely 458.2 lbs, which is in line with some of the dry weight figures I found - be careful with dry weights - others ranged up to 580lbs for the same bike.

be that as it may,

1997 Yamaha VMX12 V-max, (platform being essentially unchanged since inception in 1985, with some frame stiffening, suspension, and brake updates circa 1994.

Suggested retail 10,499

liquid cooled transverse 70 degree 4-stroke V-4

Rake/trail: 29 degrees/4/7 inches.

Final Drive: shaft, 2.85:1

Wheelbase: 62.6 inches.

Wet weight 616 lbs. (all necessary fluids and I believe a 1/2 tank of gas - 4 gallon tank)

Corrected horsepower: 118.2 at about 8800 rpm,
Torque: 86.4 ft/lbs at about 6000 rpm

Average 200 yard acceleration from 50 mph: 91.4 mph ( believe this is 5th gear "roll-on")

Corrected best 1/4 mile acceleration 10.87 seconds @124.0 mph....

Don't try this at home....

there's no mention of braking ability in this particular test, Motorcyclist Magazine, January, 1997, but, hey. brakes only slow ya down.... the test does also speak of acceleration hitting sudden and hard at 6000 rpm, based on the design of the bike's intake system. The same issue includes an article on a highly modified, 187 horsepower, nitrous oxide injected, model...

for more info (on any bike) look for back issues of Motorcyclist, Cycle World, or Cycle News, among others, or check your local dealer - although factory stats are notoriously optomistic, a lot of dealers keep reprints of magazine testing of current models on hand as a sales tool.
