I just finished watching the latest CBS edition of the Diana Crash
in which Mr. Brian McHenry provided a reconstruction. This still
leaves me puzzling.

We have a vehicle travelling 70 mph ( 112 km/h) in its own lane. The bridge
supports appear to be quite close together, 10 15 metres? Or maybe less?
Yet we have the vehicle capable of squeezing into this area with
considerable (40%?) overlap of the front end. Does anyone not feel at
least a little puzzled? Having mapped the trajectory of a few loss-of
-control vehicles in my time I see a real difficulty with vehicles making
rapid lateral motions in short distances at high speed. Mr. McHenry seems
to have obtained the french investigations' scale diagram of the site
which he used as the basis of his analysis. Having only had the opportunity
to make scant observations of the accident information I reserve my
judgment.

The other puzzling thing: Where did this Uno vehicle travel to after the
contact with the Mercedes? I believe the reconstruction indicated the
Uno was travelling perhaps 45 mph (?). Once the Mercedes passed it and
crashed the Mercedes slid into the driving lane. This was the Uno's lane.
Are we saying the Uno came to a halt before reaching the rest spot of the
Mercedes? The Mercedes struck the 13th pillar of the bridge. This does not
sound like a long distance into the tunnel. Does this give the Uno a
reasonable distance in which to stop?

It is interesting how the TV shots of the vehicle rarely give
you enough time to even get a mental picture of the depth of crush or
where its actually located. As with everyone else, I await further
developments.
