Pete,

You mentioned that you got the same results "at every length" that you tried. Did you try using a chord that spans the entire length of the yaw? I think the reason that we generally use the first third of the yaw is to get the speed at the beginning of loss of control. Using the entire length of the yaw when selecting the chord will give you a larger number for a middle ordinate and therefore the percentage of error should be less. I was always taught not to use less than 30 feet as a chord, as a rule. Using the whole chord, at that length, instead of the first third should not noticeably change the calculated speed.
