The old saying goes Be careful what you wish for It might come true. I started private work
whilke still with the PD. A rather large 400+ sworn department. There was a lot of
reluctance to allow the work and finally approval. Immediately there is jealousy
among coworkers defense attorneys trying to weasel their way into your confidences
and so on. After 2 years it was too much to maintain both and so I retired.
The biggest challenge is of a personal nature. Are you ready to
sit on the stand in front of judges lawyers and juries and
have a $300 hour attorney grill you on every aspect
of your professional career finances and anything else that he/she may
think would be embarrassing. It takes a while before the recognition and name
circulates the legal community before they accept you.
Have a great day.
