I agree with Ed Phillips. I have compared skid marks to car fire marks caused on the same surface at a scene. I also had the misfortune to lock my brakes at 90 MPH on an asphalt surface to avoid a collision. This action stripped my tire treads down to the tire cords, proving that the skid mark did indeed come from tire rubber.
