The information and discussion about acceptable accelerations in a swerve is all very interesting, but we're talking about avoidance decision on the part of a startled driver. The driver doesn't calculate g's when s/he is deciding what to do. To me, the reconstruction question ought to be be couched in terms of psychological instinct: Under what conditions, and what percentage of time, will a driver choose to swerve instead of slamming on brakes?
Of course, if the decision to swerve is made, then whether or not it is successful depends on the g's that can be withstood by the driver and the tires.
