There is a Human Factors and Ergonomics society based out of Santa Monica California. The organization addresses all aspects of human performance and machine/system design. There are technical groups within the HFES that address specific topic areas. One technical group is the Forensics Professional Group. They attempt to address issues in maintaining the quality and representation of Human Factors expertise in the civil litigation environment. In addition to the Forensic group there are additional groups on transportation safety, aviation and about twenty other topics.
One method that was instituted several years ago was the certification of Human Factors Experts. Similar to ACTAR, prospective candidates are screened for training and work experience. After meeting the training and experience requirement, the potential expert must take a day long practical test.
If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me or the HFES at http://www.hfes.vt.edu/HFES.
