o out to indicate a "ready" status, or did it stay on solid?

The other post on the Vetronix CDR system is correct, it will NOT retrieve the information from the 1995 system, and probably won't till next summer some time.

I would suggest the following course of action immediately.

1) Remove the DERM or SDM from the vehicle. It SHOULD be under the front passenger seat. On some 95's you can see the box (it is silver) sitting on the floor under the seat, on some you will have to remove the seat and peel back the carpet to find it. If the car is a write you can simplify this by cutting thru the carpet. I can't remember if a 95 has a metal pan in the passenger seat bottom, or you can cut thru the seat if need be using a keyhole saw and a pair of wire snips to cut the wire re-inforcing.

Make sure you keep a record of the VIN number of the vehicle.

Is this a single or dual airbag system? (I can;t remember)

2) Speak with your dealer / lawyer. You will have to lodge a formal complaint with GM US about the SRS system. They are the only people at the moment who can download the information in the DERM/SDM for that year/make/model. They SHOULD do it for you under these circumstances.

Your other choice is to hang on to it until the 95's are supported by the Vetronix system and have someone download it then.

Having siad that, remember that airbag systems deploy based upon PREDICTIVE algorythms. They look at what is happening and try to tell if a big crash is happening based on many criteria (SAE has an excellent book in crash sensing in automotive airbag systems). In every system there is a tolerance area where it MAY or MAY NOT deploy.

If you can rule out system failure/error by having it downloaded, the next best step is to have an experience reconstructionist look at the vehicle and the guard rail system, the police reports etc.... to try and determine why there was no deployment. My feeling is that the guard rail did not cause a sharp enough decel. over a short enough time.

If you need help in locating the box, if it is not where described, please send me an e-mail direct with your VIN and I will look it up for you.
