Typically in pedestrian crashes, anything being carried by the pedestrian
will land near the area of impact. We have conducted close to 50 pedestrian
impacts and found this to be the case in most instances. The other items
such as glasses hats and even gloves also typically land very near the area
of the collision. As far as vehicle debris I think Jim Mitchell is accurate
in what he says although I would be cautious using debris as my only
source of evidence.
You can find some of what I mentioned in Jerry Eubanks papers and book.
During their experiments they found similar to what we found in that items
carried or worn by pedestrians typically land near the area of collision.
