Pat:

I am an Accident Reconstructionist with the Fall River Massachusetts Police Department. I have about a year and a half to go until retirement and the Deputy Chief to develope policies procedures regarding the accident call-out team before I go. Our department has never had a formal proceedure to call out accident investigators except for a call-out list having each of 4 officers on-call for one week each.

I have obtained a copy of the Woodbridge New Jersey Police Department Policies Proceedures regarding their Traffic Homicide Team call-out.

I intend to obtain a number of copies of policies proceedures from other departments to get ideas in developing our own. I would be happy to send you a copy of the ones I receive if you send me the ones that you have.

Every area is different and require different policies proceedures. In any event, policies proceedures should be suffilient to set policy but not so firm so as not to allow flexibility by the responding unit. We wish to set a policy that ensures that an accident will be investigated properly and that the team is called out only when necessary.

Good luck.
