Actually if you are half technically inclined a bumper gun isn't that hard to
build yourself. Use the solenoid from a car door lock mechanism to retract its
pin when the power is applied. The extended pin holds back an arm with a firing
pin attached to the end and is spring loaded. When the pin draws back the arm
rotates and strikes a brass loaded with a primer and chalk held in a metal block
at the bottom of the whole affair. Mine is drilled to take a .38 brass that was
the same calibre as my old service revolver. You just need someone to put new
primers in some old brass for you and then take a few sticks of colored chalk and
screw them in the end until it won't go further and then break the chalk off.
The whole affair is based on a 4" by 10" aluminum plate. There is a piece of
belting attached to the top to hang the device from the trunk by closing the lid
on it. The solenoid is attached to the top of the plate offset a bit to the
right. The arm with the firing pin attaches about mid plate and pivots from its
left end. A spring is attached to the middle of the arm and stretched to the
anchor point below on the plate. You rotate the arm up and pull the rod from
the solenoid down to hold the arm up under spring tension. The block for the
load is placed where the firing pin can strike the primer. Wiring is from a
connection to the brake lights in the trunk with an arming switch on a cord that
I string to the drivers seat.
If you are feeling ambitious or know someone to build one for you let me know
and I can e mail you a sketch of mine with enough details for constuction.
Tim.
