There was a paper presented about four years ago at SAE with a title
something like "Tumble Numbers for Motorcycle Riders". The thrust of the
paper was that sliding and tumbling motorcycle riders slow down at about
0.5 g's. The author said that this was simply a coorelation from experimental
data and provided only an outline of some theories of why this seem to be
an appropriate number. If you want send me a note and I will find
the specific paper number.
