Paul, before I left the Vic AIS, we were using the geodimieter. There were a few reasons. And we did try a couple.
Firslty the Pentax of the time had a hand held data imput which meant you had to hold it while still trying to sight the target.
Next the Geodimeter had both an internal and external memory facility which, as you know police, was doubly safe in case of lost data.
We also tried the Sakeesha (Excuse the speeling) but the coding was to complexe.
Geocomp wrote software specific for downloading the Geodimeter into our PC.

It really depends on what end CAD program you intend to use and what will talk to it. RULLER uses a different system again.
