I have conducted some studies and have found that the erosion of the tire mark is most dependant on the volume of traffic on the roadway. The looser material at the incipinet end tends to fade faster. On some high volume roadways, with poor initial deposits, a majority of some marks have faded with-in days, on other low volume surfaces the diminishment was about 20% after two months. I think an SAE paper may exist on this topic. Special considerations may also exist, such that hosed off surfaces (Evidence Eradication Team) and broom trucks (the mobile sweepers that clean highways) when called to clean up the "kitty litter" or sand can also assit in expediting the removal of the tire marks, as well as coloring gouges so they don't look fresh.
