I can tell you there have been cases where experts have been sued. One is on the east coast where an expert worked for two both the defense and the plaintiff in a civil case. I am not sure of the outcome on that case.
The second case was in San Diego where an expert was sued after his client lost the case. That case was settled on the court house steps for between $75-100000 although the exact amount was kept secret. Info around this area said that part of the suit was over embellishments in his CV. That case everything was sealed so we don't know whether what if anything was embellished.
Those are the only two cases I know about but I'm sure there will be more in the future.
