The R.C.M.P. "E" Division (British Columbia) Reconstructionist/Analyst program
held a seminar March 6 & 7 at Kamloops co ordinated by Corporal Eric Brewer and
Constable Roch Parent. The object was to test the sliding co efficient of
friction for a truck tractor and van trailer laying on their sides sliding on
asphalt pavement.
Tests were conducted with a load cell and a tow truck winching to determine how
much force was required to slide the unit of known weight and an accelerometer
and tow truck were used to pull the unit and measure the deceleration rates.
Data is still being processed and complete results have not been disseminated
but it looks at this point that the 0.5 to 0.55 range that we have been using
is going to be upheld.
