I've been an "Accident Investigator" for the past 14 years and an Accident Reconstruction Specialist" since 1989. I am in favor of dropping the term "accident" in favor of "crash" or "collision." Its a small change that may not mean much to many people but there are a number of groups that believe in the change. The majority of these groups are involved in alcohol education and alcohol abuse prevention. Since a large portion of the "accidents" that we investigate are alcohol related I believe we should respect their desire to use the term "crash" or "collision." Its a change that I have been making for the last few years. I work for the Naperville Illinois Police Dept. Illinois has changed the terminology on the state reports to "crash." Change the terms out of respect for the victims of alcohol related "crashes."
