I am the OIC of the Northern Territory Police Accident Investigation Unit.
We are currently considering changing the word Accident to Collision.
The main reasons for the change is :
1) Most crashes are not accidental they are caused. Accident indicates some
unavoidable action when in fact most crashes are due a failure to exercise
due care and attention
2) The word collision or crash have the same meaning and either would be a
appropriate alternative

Should title be: Accident Investigation or Crash Investigation

If this thread does not exist in the current archive, you can begin another one by using that title.
