To really benefit from any organization I look for two things. (1) The quality of their produced material. (2) Locality. The quality reference material you will have through out your career and depend on it many times. I believe Einstein said something like I don't memorize details, I remember where to find them. In my opinion NAPARS memebership which entitiles you to get the Accident Recostruction Journal is a good deal. I think that's about $45/year. Also locating a local organization can help you network and find people whose opinions you trust, who will afford you the luxury of going "eyeballs on" your scenes and data. This type of second opinion is invaluable. Anybody that thinks they can do this alone, with-out ever looking for fresh insights is fooling themselves. You are working in the biggest physics lab going, but the controls aren't always in place. Take advantage of that. SAE publishes good material and has an affiliate level for non-engineers. SOAR is headquar
tered near you. I am sure there are many others. Belong to as many or as few as will benefit you.
