I stand corrected with regard to my errors in authors, involved vehicles and dates
of the several studies. (I should have known better than to rely upon memory
with this "tough crowd" ... but that's the advantage of peer review.)
This thread is good stuff!! We may all come away with a better understanding
and perhaps even some staged collisions to boot.
What might we learn from simple dynamometer analyses with regard to wheel crush
and fork bending I wonder? I suspect that motorless and otherwise "stripped"
(read "cheaper")junkers could be used and in a much safer testing series than
actual impacts. James M. Green dabbles with this idea in his book regarding
bicycle reconstruction (but he does quickly warn of a major difference between
static and dynamic force application). What are any (other) drawbacks to the
idea?
