Terry,
I think Wade had the right idea with respect ot the tape measures and plumb bobs.
I also include a four foot level or four foot straight edge that I hold on end at each C location. It serves as a vertical guide.
I'm sure the other configurations mentioned will work just as well, but the tapes, bob, and level store easily, are simple to use, and can be employed for other applications.
As some one else in the thread mentioned it's a good idea to obtain the pre-crash dimensions before you go and measure.
